Parakeet Transparency Puzzle

In my Designing for Kids class at the Pratt Institute, I was asked to create a puzzle about nature.

Budgerigars (also known as “budgies” or parakeets) are a species of bird native to Australia. In 1840, these birds were introduced as companion animals to England. However, they were not popular pets in the United States until the 1950s

Using Illustrator, I drew my parakeets.

Next, I separated them into channels using Photoshop.

In captivity, budgies exhibit a wide range of colors, including white, yellow, and blue. In the wild, however, they only come in bright green. Their wild relatives make their homes in the cavities of trees and can live in flocks of 100 or more birds.

Finally, they were ready to print on acetate and photograph.
